It
was my father, the Dutch sailor in the middle of the picture, who gave
me the idea for the Hollander.
The Hollander started late in 1986 after I saw a segment on the Today show about
people building kaleidoscopes. I decided to put all my years of precision metalworking
experience to work developing several designs of my own.
I learned the use of line and form from my mother, a fashion design teacher.
My appreciation of color and light was further developed by a course in floral
design I took while at the University of Massachusetts.
